Hi, thanks for visiting Movers.com! To answer your question about moving your motorcycle, most movers do allow motorcycles to travel in the moving truck alongside your household goods. While a motorcycle is technically considered a motor vehicle, you do not need to hire an auto transport company to move your motorcycle and you can save yourself a lot of extra hassle simply by placing it on the moving truck along with your other belongings. However, since your motorcycle is an expensive item, you'll need to take special care of it and make sure it's properly protected while on the truck during the move.

Packing and protecting your motorcycle

There are several different ways in which you can keep your motorcycle protected while it's on the moving truck. Here are a few options:

  • Tying it down in the truck: One of the more common ways to ship your motorcycle on a moving truck is simply to place it in the back of the truck and tie it down to make sure that it does not tip over during the move. You should then wrap it in a few layers of moving blankets and moving pads to add some extra cushioning and protection, in case another item falls on it while the truck is in transit.
  • Placing it in a special motorcycle shipping crate: Shipping crates are also a popular method for shipping your motorcycle on a moving truck. Many shipping companies and moving supply companies offer specialized and customized motorcycle shipping crates that can be used to ship your motorcycle safely and securely within the moving truck.
  • Purchase insurance, if available. Inquire with the moving company you choose about what kind of insurance coverage they offer for your motorcycle. While you may already be covered through your motorcycle's auto insurance policy, a little extra protection never hurt.
