Worst experience of my life
Two months ago, my boyfriend and I started planning our upcoming move to Birmingham Alabama from Arlington, Virginia. After a lot of price shopping, my boyfriend had a delightful conversation with a rep from Official van lines. He was quoted $1900 based on our inventory. After weighing our options, we booked the move with a man named Mike that worked out of the Jersey office. He said our belongings would be at home October 1 at the latest, that their drivers wouldn’t legally drive more than 400 miles in a day. We were delighted by the experience, gave our $500 deposit and started packing. The week before the move, I realized I had nothing from the moving company checking in or confirming an arrival time. I called the number we booked the move, no answer. I tried every phone number I could find associated with the company for four days. No answer, no email, nothing. I was terrified that we had no way to move our stuff at the end of our lease and no time to book a new moving company. After dozens of phone calls and emails, the evening before the move, a woman answered in the Florida office and confirmed they’d be at our house at some point the next day. Late that night we were given our expected window between 9-11 am. Moving day was smooth! Our 3 movers were great. When our belongings are packed, we signed a contract and were told we’d receive a copy and that someone would call us for the remaining payment after they left. October 1st came and went, no movers. We called the next day and after 8 rings with no response we were finally told delivery wouldn’t be permitted until we paid our balance. We had NEVER heard this before but immediately wired our balance. The next week began the most agonizing 6 WEEK LONG process of waiting for our belongings to be delivered. We had only packed for a max of 5 days, in case something went wrong. We called every day, they picked up the phone maybe once out of every 12 tries. The woman who answered the phone was named Stephany. She would yell at us, cut us off, hang up on us, lie repeatedly about the status of our move, tell us to call back later on in the week and then not answer the phone when we did so. She said they had 5-30 business days to move our belongings because we weren’t on their normal route because “Alabama is considered the midwest”. This was the FIRST TIME WE HAD ever been told about the window. They lied at every turn (If we were so lucky for them to answer the phone) Stephany was the single rudest person I’ve ever dealt with: In customer service, in any business transaction, in life honestly. A week ago I called (5 weeks after they took our belongings) And they said “Our stuff was getting on the truck.” I called every single day since then to get an estimated day of arrival and they never answered the phone. They called Saturday to give us a delivery window and said we had to have $1,000 cash ready for them to get our belongings off the truck. So we had to acquire a load of cash at night on
